Modular R&D produces a workshop series that helps companies new to China quickly grasp the healthcare landscape and drug development process. The workshops act as “China Drug Development 101” and cover aspects of drug development such as the fundamentals of the healthcare system, the regulatory approval process and clinical operations. It is aimed at middle and top level strategic decision makers and stresses the differences between the U.S. and China.
The workshops use a real drug candidate case study from a real company as a way to focus research and discussion on practical issues and operational strategies. Before the workshop, Modular consultants conduct a comprehensive study of the case study drug candidate, covering issues such as standard treatment in China, potential market size and recruitment rate. The research results are presented during the workshop, and panels of industry experts, along with workshop participants, discuss the case study's issues and options and offer recommendations of strategic solutions.
In 2009, the topic of the Modular workshop was “From Inception to Execution: A step-by-step case study taking an international company to its first clinical operation in China.” The challenge was to develop a China development plan for a small U.S. biotech's new phase I MOA oncology biologics. The three-hour workshop helped the case study company develop a practical solution to integrate China into its global development plan.
